Grampian Children’s Book Award

Grampian Children's Book AwardAnd this year’s winner of the Grampian Children’s Book Award is Dave Cousins for his book ‘Waiting for Gonzo’.

The Awards Ceremony took place on Wednesday 14 May at the University of Aberdeen’s Arts Lecture Theatre attended by 550 pupils, teachers, librarians and invited guests.   Winner chosen entirely by young people.   Shortlisted authors Dave Cousins and Claire McFall attended.  The event was ably hosted by Lari Don, and Keith Charters made a mad dash north to fill in for an unwell Barry Hutchison.

There are three pupil competitions for the Grampian Children’s Book Award – book review, movie poster for the film of the book, and new for this year a Booktrailer for their favourite book.

Winners of Booktrailer section are
1st Jasmine Ewen, Elgin High School
2nd Ritchie Jackson, Torry Academy
3rd Ellie Harrison, Torry Academy

This year is the 10th year of the GCBA, and adults in schools and libraries were invited to read the previous 10 winners for a ‘Best of the Best’ award

‘The Best of the Best’ was awarded jointly to Cathy Forde for Fat Boy Swim (2005), and Patrick Ness for A Monster Calls(2013) in their absence.
